The most important component of a website is usually the text. You may be capable of writing it yourself but see Writing for the Web for some useful comments. We are prepared to read your initial copy and check it or to write it. One of the most important requirements of a website is your ability to change details of the text. With our tools you can always do that including creating new pages without even having to tell us - it is easy. Help is on the website - and you can always call us. Graphic design is critical to websites. Your website should look good but make sure that the graphics do not prevent simple changes to the website or obscure how to use the site. We find that about half our customers have graphics such as letterhead that we can use and about half need to use one of our graphic artists. If you have suitable graphics like your letterhead and they just need sizing or setting colourways we will do that in the price - otherwise allow for Graphic Design. It is critical that your site is designed to be "Search Engine Friendly". Our tools automatically do much of that but there is always some hand-tuning needed based on keywords relevant to your products. Within your hosting fees for the first 3 months we will undertake the initial promotion. Of course you can also advertise on the web. See Web Marketing. You will always need to find other sites to cross-link to. You can post photos and graphics on your site together with Office documents and pdfs. You will need to plan how to tell people about your website - this is called Billboarding. You will need a "launch" campaign - to get some attention. Then you will need to build a regular newsletter - capture prospects names, classify them, send them emails. You can do all this and the legal requirements of Opt-In and Opt-Out are met. Most of these have many restrictions on number of pages, traffic and disk space used. We only have restrictions on traffic from videos. Many of them do not use dual disks. With us your entire site is recorded twice in real time to protect against disk failure. Many are not hosted in physically secure premises, with access to multiple telco "pipes" and emergency power generators. We do. Shopping sites and similar are hosted in sophisticated databases and usually with many images. Our fees include maintaining the software through changes to operating systems and libraries. Also included is back-up of both your static pages and of your dynamic pages. Copies of this code is always kept off-site. We also review Search Engine performance on your site and will review and tweak pages for good search engine visibility. Our WebStats feature means we log every access to every page of your site and provide 9 different reports enabling you to see what's happening on your site. And we are available to coach you on developing your business. So we lower your one-time costs but are realistic about your monthly fees. Other CostsYou may incur other costs: Domain Name Registration: There are many registrants who charge varying amounts ranging from at $39 to $62 NZD pa and many overseas registrants who charge anything from $6.99 to $35 USD pa. Credit Card Processing: You will normally need to be a Credit Card Merchant. This is normally arranged through your bank because you will normally wish to handle physical payments as well. We can use various payment services. We normally use DPS - the one that TradeMe uses - simply because it is well-known and trust-worthy. Fees are $150 plus GST one-time and minimum of $50 per month or 50 cents per transaction.
