Build Your Own Simple Site

AboutIT is focussed on enabling a site to be created quickly and effectively. If what you want to do is straight forward you can do it yourself. But if you are busy, we can do it all for you. Thereafter you can make various changes immediately yourself.

Write Your Own Pages

Our software lets you write your pages without any software on your machine except a standard browser. You can maintain your site from the office, from home or while travelling. Your learning time will be about 10 minutes to get your first page up.

Photographs and Images

You can put up images and photographs using the simple Microsoft Browse window (.psd, .tif, .cdr, .png, .jpg, .gif, .ai, .fh10). You can then place them on pages. You can also crop them and rotate them.

We can take a photograph for you with our digital camera and put it up for you.

Manage Tables of Data

You can build tables and place them where you wish. You can then maintain them. You can make a single table available to a specific sub-editor and hence delgate the responsibility to maintain that data.

A key issue in our surveys was the difficulty some people with websites experience when they want small changes to your website. With AboutIT just do IT! No delay! No hassle! No charge!

Table of Contents

If you need to have some long pages such as Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) or technical descriptions of your product then they can be automatically indexed with a Table of Contents. This allows the reader to click to the section they are interested in and then click back to the top. You can provide such links from any other page as well.

When the Layout is Very Complicated

If you have very complex needs we can do them for you and still leave you in a position to make simple changes yourself safely.

Choose a Template or let AboutIT design one for you

You can choose from our standard templates or use our layouts with your graphics or ask us to design something uniquely yours. We can use the graphics from your letterhead if suitable.

Use Clever Menus - Hierarchical - Left/Down, Left/Right or Top/Down

With our tools you can readily and automatically build a sophisticated hierarchical menu. The menu can expand down the page, out to the right or be across the top. Simply say where this page is to be linked from.

The unique AboutIT floating menu provides these basic facilities. They include print-friendly reformatting and special copyright mark-up.

Photos, Thumbnails and Images

Photos and images can be readily uploaded on to your site. They can be cropped and rotated. But very simply a photograph or image can be thumb-nailed - when you click on it a full-sized version opens in another window. This preserves the quality for subsequent printing without burdening your pages on first downloading.

Office Documents

Microsoft Office documents (and .pdf) can be uploaded and are then available to your readers.
You may wish to use our SharedDocs facility.

Site Map and Archives

To ensure a reader can find all your pages a site map is automatically generated. It is an alphabetical listing of all your pages. The site map ensures that search engines find all your pages.

We generate the sitemap XML file required by Google.

Older pages can be archived with one click and hence moved away from the main menu.

A Search facility can find any word on any page of your site thus allowing a reader to navigate to other pages.

Search

Any word in your static pages can be found by a search which needs only the left-hand stub of the word. For example, find Mitchell by just entering "Mi". The context is shown. TOC

Yes, You have a Sandpit!

The tools provide you with one click previews and a facility to view the whole site - before it is published to the world at large. Use this to proofread the page or get approval by others. Sub-editors can change a page or a section which can be viewed by the editor before publishing.

Search Engine Friendly

Special facilities let you make the site search-friendly. Page Titles, Search Description and meta-tags can be easily entered. Our menus are Text-based and hence visible to search engines. A Sitemap is created silently and automatically. We can help you with further Search Engine Optimisation and Google Adwords. We can recommend other sites which you should register with.

Forum

A forum allows your readers to comment on any topic. Your readers can thus give you their views. You can moderate their posts if you wish.

Our forum has some particularly sophisticated features - they can automatically function as email buletin boards. They can proactively alert registrants to new posts.

Editors and Sub-Editors

If you have several sources or writers for your sites then they can each maintain their own pages while the editor can control the publication step. A sub-editor cannot change the structure of the navigation or damage any other page. Delegate Content Management.

Registration

A Registration facility allows your readers to record their details. Subsequently they can log-in and maintain their data. Their password is held in one-way encrypted form.

You can then classify them. Then allow only selected registrants to see certain pages. Or generate email back to them using sophisticated CRM techniques.

Double Opt-In and Ensuring Registrants are Real

The system automatically sends the double opt-in email and processes the confirmation. This is the practice recommended by the Direct Marketing Association of New Zealand.

Emails generated will automatically contain an opt-out link.

Forgotten Password

If your reader has forgotten their password they can use the Forgotten Password facility. Passwords are held one-way encrypted and hence cannot be stolen from our database.

Secure Pages

Pages can be marked at 9 levels of security. Only if the registrant is at sufficient level can they see a given page. The registrant's level can be set by the administrator or by them reading selected pages and clicking through on special icons.

Generate Emails to your Customers

Registrants can be tagged in 5 groups. Traditional marketing classifies them as Suspects, Prospects, Customers, Clients and Advocates. You can then generate emails to these groups or selected registrants. Above all you can begin your Customer Relationship Management.

Opt-Out

Emails automatically have an Opt-Out link as is now required by legislation.

Dynamic Content displayed out to the Right

Additional content can be displayed in the usual right-hand third column. It is randomly displayed and can contain images and links. This is where you place testimonials, promos, snippets or adverts. You can edit them immediately you get new content.

Whats New

When a new page is added or one is changed it can be tagged with a date range. A page called Whats New is then automatically created and can be edited. Place this page high up in your menu. Make it the place frequent readers go first. This is where you manage sales campaigns.

Promotion Pages

It is becoming common practice to create a "Third Column". [The menu and the body are the first two columns.] Place on this "page" testimonials, photos, staff pics, adverts, related links, etc. These items may be randomly presented but in such a way that the same items appear on the same page for the same visit.

Web Statistics

AboutIT provides 9 different reports analysing the patterns of visits. Examine these to understand what your visitors are trying to do. Is your navigation clear? What pages do they exit on? What pages do they enter on? Which country do they come from? What did they enter into the search engine to find you?

Help is All There

Help for the Administrator is on the site and you can print it off if you wish.

Our target was to learn it all in 10 minutes - we believe you can edit pages in less than 10 minutes.

Shopping Carts

We can provide you with shopping carts, on-line invoicing, etc! Everything your customers do is reported to you both immediately by email or by overnight downloading of .csv files which can be loaded into your accounting system.

Payment by Credit Card

We can accept payment by Credit Card. There are fees involved but they can be as low as 50 cents per payment (plus CC and banking charges).

Anything You Want

Finally anything which is not part of our standard product we can do for you.
